Why would I use facial fillers?

In youth, an abundance of two important substances, collagen and hyaluronic acid, keep your skin looking smooth and supple. Collagen is a protein that provides your skin with structural support. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume. With time, sunlight and other factors, collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin diminish, the skin loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear. With a simple filler treatment, imperfections and signs of aging are softened, erasing some of those little annoyances.

The options: Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm & Voluma (new!)

Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm & Voluma are long-lasting, crystal-clear gels composed of Hyaluronic acid and used for filling out lips, facial wrinkles and facial folds. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore dissolves naturally with time. The hyaluronic acid is derived from a non-animal source and is almost identical to that naturally found in the body being only very slightly modified (0.5 - 1%). Other hyaluronic acid based, injectable implants are often modified by about 20%. Restylane, Perlane & Juvederm are therefore completely biologically degradable - the body's metabolism of hyaluronic acid corresponds to 200 syringes of Restylane per day. The product is also naturally integrated into the tissue.

The Treatment:

Our physicians will discuss the benefits of a filler treatment with you, and help you determine the results that are right for you. Depending on which product you choose, a local anesthetic solution is injected very slowly prior to treatment. We go to great lengths to make sure that the patient is at ease and does not have to experience major discomfort. The filler is then injected to provide volume where the concentration of the body's own hyaluronic acid has decreased. Juvederm is available with the anesthetic already mixed into the syringe, so there is no need for extra injections. The results can be seen immediately.

The Result:

Our physicians are able to fill your lines, lips and imperfections in less than an hour with a simple intra-dermal injection of the filler. Depending on what area is treated, there may or may not be some temporary swelling and/or minimal redness. Ice is applied to decrease the swelling. In most cases, you will be able to return to your social and working life immediately following treatment.
