Compression Stockings

If you have a family history of varicose or spider veins, are planning a pregnancy or have a job that requires long periods of standing, sitting or air travel, you might benefit from wearing a support sock or compression stocking.

Medical compression stockings can be used to prevent spider veins from forming, alleviate varicose vein symptoms or as part of a maintenance program after having a procedure such as vein stripping, ligation, laser vein removal or Sclerotherapy. Stockings are the easiest way to protect your investment after these kinds of treatments.

How Do Compression Stockings Work?

Compression stockings or socks are “graduated compression” which means they are tightest at the ankle and gradually give less compression up the leg to aid in venous return, helping blood flow to the heart. There are a wide variety of styles to choose from: socks, thigh high and pantyhose. And several choices of materials: cotton, rubber, and sheer Lycra. Men’s and maternity styles are also available. The amount of compression needed can be discussed your doctor or our nurse.

During your visit at Delta Laser, you will be assessed by one of our doctors or nurse and a prescription for the compression stockings will be provided. You may then choose where you would like to purchase your choice of socks or stockings – some are available at our clinic through Jennifer Sutherland, or we can direct you to another retailer.

If you have questions about, or would like to schedule a fitting for compression stockings, please contact us to set up your appointment.
