Sclerotherapy

Eliminate unsightly leg veins.

Sclerotherapy is the most common treatment for small, unsightly veins. A well-proven procedure, it has been utilized to treat spider veins and smaller “pre” varicose veins since the 1930’s. The treatment of veins involves an injection of a solution (generally sodium chloride) directly into the vein through a micro-needle. This solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell, stick together and clot the blood. Over time the vessel becomes scar tissue, is naturally absorbed by the body and fades from view.

Other Treatments for Veins

There are times when laser treatment of veins is preferable to sclerotherapy. This method is usually used to remove veins on the face, which tend to be closer to the surface of the skin and much smaller in size. However with leg veins, laser treatments cannot penetrate deeply enough to successfully treat them like sclerotherapy does. Sometimes a combination treatment of veins using laser and sclerotherapy is recommended. If larger varicose veins are involved, we would recommend you to a vein specialist who may recommend another approach.
